So many amazing movies...

Everybody loves kicking back on the couch and watching a movie.  The food and wellness documentary world has exploded in the last decade, and that momentum isn't slowing down!  This a fabulous way to learn about health, to inspire yourself, to engage your family to come along for the ride.  Below are just a few of my personal must-see recommendations; Netflix has all of these, and sometimes are available as 'instant play' features.  Click the pictures below to watch the trailers.  Enjoy!

Fed Up
This film focuses on two main things that steer 85% of my thoughts and actions in my life/work: 1) CHILDREN and 2) SUGAR. Beware - once you 'aware' yourself, you really can't 'unaware' yourself again.  Everything spoken in this trailer is cornerstone to my work in helping people rid themselves of food addiction, obesity, anxiety, and depression.  The focus in this film is on the children.  Incredible!  Lots of compelling interview clips with the top experts in the field today, including Dr. Mark Hyman and Dr. Robert Lustig.

Absolutely watch this documentary! You and your loved ones, especially the kiddos, will reap the benefits of your 92 minute investment in this film.

"Everything we’ve been told about food and exercise for the past 30 years is dead wrong. FED UP is the film the food industry doesn’t want you to see. From Katie Couric, Laurie David (Oscar winning producer of AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH) and director Stephanie Soechtig, FED UP will change the way you eat forever."

Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead
Click here and you can watch the entire documentary for FREE!  How awesome is that?! So good.  This is how it should be - health information that is FREE & entertaining! My favorite part comes when he meets the truck driver.  I cried tears of empathy and joy a whole bunch during this film!  And while Joe's radical approach is indeed extreme, it speaks to the true power of juicing, which is one of my key power tools of healthy living. Cheers!

About the film:
"100 pounds overweight, loaded up on steroids and suffering from a debilitating autoimmune disease, Joe Cross is at the end of his rope and the end of his hope. In the mirror he saw a 310 lb man whose gut was bigger than a beach ball and a path laid out before him that wouldn’t end well— with one foot already in the grave, the other wasn’t far behind. Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead is an inspiring film that chronicles Joe’s personal mission to regain his health.

With doctors and conventional medicines unable to help long- term, Joe turns to the only option left, the body’s ability to heal itself. He trades in the junk food and hits the road with juicer and generator in tow, vowing only to drink fresh fruit and vegetable juice for the next 60 days. Across 3,000 miles Joe has one goal in mind: To get off his pills and achieve a balanced lifestyle.

While talking to more than 500 Americans about food, health and longevity, it’s at a truck stop in Arizona where Joe meets a truck driver who suffers from the same rare condition. Phil Staples is morbidly obese weighing in at 429 lbs; a cheeseburger away from a heart-attack. As Joe is recovering his health, Phil begins his own epic journey to get well.

What emerges is nothing short of amazing – an inspiring tale of healing and human connection. Part road trip, part self-help manifesto, Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead defies the traditional documentary format to present an unconventional and uplifting story of two men from different worlds who each realize that the only person who can save them is themselves."

Hungry for Change

This one has several interviews with some great personalities, lively and impassioned experts who know how to deliver the goods.  It will leave you questioning the food industry and will expose some of the myths we've all been naive to.  The filmmakers are a husband and wife duo, makers of Food Matters (the documentary prior to this one - watch it, too!), and they keep a pretty happening website, loaded with awesome resources.  Check it out:  http://www.foodmatters.tv/
